Valentines picnic

Enjoy a stunning evening at the beautiful Helderberg Nature Reserve. With summer weather, magnificent views, warm hues of african sunlight and the entire family. This is the best way to have a picnic. And even better . . . there will be a fun filled craft project for the kids where they will make a stunning nature / valentine theme lantern. These lanterns can then be used for your evening picnic and you take it home with you for future picnics or to use at home. You can also enjoy a gentle walk in the reserve as the stars twinkle above. Andreas Groenewald will accompany you and give you information surrounding the stars, the reserve and the plants and creatures you may stumble upon. It’s not just about the stars; you can enjoy the night calls, the scents of the evening, the delicate light, the great outdoors. Following this, you will have the opportunity to view the stars and constellations through powerful telescopes and with the guidance of our guest astronomers Auke Slotegraaf, Edward Foster and Lynnette Foster of Star People. Auke Slotegraaf has a captivating and most often humorous manner in which he shares his vast knowledge on the subject of astronomy. And you are sure to end your evening having had your interest in the skies opened further. The night sky will become more than just a vast expanse of dark nothingness . . . instead you will see the heavens in their full glory.

Apart of a fabulous evening, all funds raised will be put to good use. The Helderberg Eco-Rangers runs on a very tight budget with most team members working on a voluntary basis so as to make the fees more affordable to families. The group is in need of funds to purchase equipment such as microscopes, two way radios, basic point and shoot cameras etc. We aim to give our Eco-Rangers a broad and exciting education surrounding nature. We believe in exposing children to as many aspects of life as possible and practical, hands on work is essential. To do this, we must have the correct equipment and materials.

Donations are welcome. Please contact us.

Let’s celebrate this fantastic group and our love for nature this Valentines day! You are welcome to bring friends and don’t forget a delicious picnic. See you soon!
